Ian Aitken, CFA, is the Managing Partner of Pembroke where he is also a Portfolio Manager. Mr. Aitken focuses on the technology and industrial sectors in the United States and Canada. Mr. Aitken is also the Chief Executive Officer of Pembroke Private Wealth Management Ltd. and the Chief Executive Officer of The GBC American Growth Fund. In addition, Mr. Aitken serves as the Chairman of Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurship, a registered Canadian charity.
Mr. Aitken graduated from the Richard Ivey School of Business at The University of Western Ontario in 1987 with a Bachelor of Arts, Honours Business Administration. He joined the Firm in 1987 and received his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1990.
Matthew Beckerleg is a Partner of Pembroke where he is also a Portfolio Manager. Mr. Beckerleg focuses on retail, technology, business and healthcare services, and special situations in the United States and Canada. Before joining Pembroke in 2005, Mr. Beckerleg worked as an Analyst at Audax Group, a Boston-based private equity firm, and as a Mergers & Acquisitions Analyst at Morgan Stanley & Co. in New York.
Mr. Beckerleg obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree, summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, in Economics from Columbia University in 1999 and his Master in Business Administration degree from the MIT Sloan School of Management in 2005.
Nicolas Chevalier, CFA, is a Partner of Pembroke where he is also a Portfolio Manager and the Chief Risk Officer. Mr. Chevalier focuses on the consumer, retail, and healthcare services sectors in the United States and Canada and also serves as the Chief Investment Process Officer. Prior to joining Pembroke, Mr. Chevalier worked for the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec as a research analyst.
Mr. Chevalier graduated from HEC at the Université de Montréal in 1992 with a Bachelor of Business Administration and obtained his Master in Business Administration degree from the University of Illinois in 1994. He joined the Firm in 1997, and received his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1997.
Stephen Hui, CFA, is a Partner of Pembroke where he is also a Portfolio Manager. Mr. Hui focuses on natural resources, financial services, industrials, and special situations in the United States and Canada.
Mr. Hui obtained his Bachelors of Commerce degree from the University of British Columbia in 2000. He joined the Firm in 2000, and received his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2003.
Michael McLaughlin, CA, is the Chief Financial Officer, the Chief Compliance Officer and a Partner of Pembroke. Mr. McLaughlin is also a Director and the Chief Financial Officer of Pembroke Private Wealth Management Ltd. and the Vice-President, Finance of The GBC American Growth Fund. Prior to joining Pembroke in 1988, Mr. McLaughlin was an auditor at Deloitte & Touche for seven years.
Mr. McLaughlin graduated from Concordia University in 1981 with a Bachelor of Commerce, Accountancy and obtained a Graduate Diploma in Accountancy and became a Chartered Accountant in 1983.
Douglas Pospisil, CFA, is a Partner of Pembroke where he is also a Portfolio Manager. Mr. Pospisil focuses on healthcare, technology, and natural resource service companies in the United States and Canada.
Mr. Pospisil obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration with a Minor in Economics degree from Wilfrid Laurier University in 2003. He joined the Firm in 2003, and received his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2006.
Seth Rosenberg is Vice-President of Business Development at Pembroke and has thirty-five years experience in North American and international institutional fund management.
Prior to joining Pembroke, Mr. Rosenberg spent ten years raising nearly $3 billion for high value added strategies in equities and hedge funds. Before that, Mr. Rosenberg managed derivative portfolios and consulted on the use of hedging strategies with Cotswold Management and worked as a consultant for Rogers, Casey & Barksdale. Mr. Rosenberg was the manager of Pfizer’s pension plan and served as on-site consultant to their international retirement programs in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
Mr. Rosenberg received his Masters in Business Administration from Columbia University in 1975, and is the author of a number of articles on pension fund financing and risk management.
Michael Shannon, CFA, is a Partner of Pembroke where he is also a Portfolio Manager. Mr. Shannon focuses on the technology, healthcare, and natural resource sectors in Canada and the United States. Prior to joining Pembroke, Mr. Shannon worked as a research analyst at Burns Fry Ltd. and as an engineer at two major Canadian technology firms.
Mr. Shannon graduated from McGill University in 1980 with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and from the Richard Ivey School of Business at The University of Western Ontario in 1983 with a Master in Business Administration degree. He received his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1990, and joined the Firm in 1994.
Ian Soutar, CFA, is the Vice Chairman and a founding Partner of Pembroke where he is also a Portfolio Manager. Mr. Soutar focuses on financial services, healthcare, and mining stock in Canada and the United States. Mr. Soutar started his investment career with the Sun Life Assurance Company and spent three years as Manager of the All-Canadian Venture Fund prior to co-founding Pembroke in 1968.
Mr. Soutar graduated from McGill University in 1958 with a Bachelor of Mining Engineering and received his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1967.
Scott Taylor, CFA, is the Vice Chairman and a founding Partner of Pembroke where he is also a Portfolio Manager. Mr. Taylor focuses on the natural resource and real estate sectors in the United States and Canada. Mr. Taylor began his career with Gulf Canada and then spent four years in the investment department of the Sun Life Assurance Company prior to co-founding Pembroke in 1968.
Mr. Taylor graduated from McGill University in 1960 with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering and received his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1970.
Jeffrey Tory, CFA, is the Chairman and a Partner of Pembroke where he is also a Portfolio Manager. Mr. Tory focuses on media, communications, business services, and special situations in Canada and the United States. Mr. Tory is also the Chairman of Pembroke Private Wealth Management Ltd. Prior to joining Pembroke, Mr. Tory was a research analyst at Burns Fry Ltd., a major Canadian brokerage firm.
Mr. Tory graduated from Queen’s University in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He joined the Firm in 1987 and received his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1988.
